David Henen admits that he was “furious” at Everton for their refusal to sell or loan him this summer.
Henen rejected a new five-year deal at the club he joined from Olympiakos in 2015.
The striker initially moved to Goodison Park on loan before the move was made permanent, and he spent time at Fleetwood in the 2015/16 season.
He expected to leave the club either temporarily or on a permanent basis this summer, but the club refused to entertain letting him go.
“To be completely honest, it wasn’t a personal choice,” he told La Meuse. “Everton didn’t want to let me go, either on loan or permanently. They told me they wanted to keep their best young players at the club since they are going to play Europa League this season.
